Thematic Development

As we continue reading the play, it is important to discover and analyze themes that appear throughout. Use this blog to explore a theme you have discovered so far.

  1. In this play, the theme seems to be realizing your dreams. Instead of their dreams deferring, they are acting upon them. I feel each character in this play wants to change to achieve their dreams. Beneatha shaved her head so she would have the frizzy hair like Africans. Everyone was trying to be like white people and straightening their hair. When Beneatha did this, they were all shocked. Beneatha is feeling she is achieving more freedom and not so ashamed she is African. She feels the color of her skin is not preventing her from achieving her dream. Changes are happening throughout the characters in the play because they feel they can now achieve their dreams.

  2. So far in the play it is obvious that all the characters have dreams they wish to fulfill. Yet, to achieve those dreams they all need money. And with only one check of $10,000 it is impossible to make everyone happy. Somebody's dream is going to have to be put aside and who knows what will happen to that person. During the remaining scenes of the play we will probably see what the lack of money and power to do anything about their dreams will do to them. There is only so much this family can do with the money and someone is going to resent Mama for not letting them use the money instead of someone else.

  3. some themes ive realized are the needs of the family.(if that is a theme) this is in a lot of the book because the need to acomplish so much. this theme can also break of into what regan was saying about dreams and how they are always striving to acomplish new dreams. also of need is that people are not always looking on the bright side and how people tare always worrying how they are going to survive
