In all honesty, who gets hurt when I plagiarize?
Explore either side of the plagiarism argument: a) It is a serious issue. b) It is not a serious issue.

All students are required to comment once a week. A week goes from Monday to Sunday. A comment can be a response to my or others' posts --- or a new post. All posts must be relevant to class discussions and assignments. Each post should be 1-3 paragraphs. Remember, it is OK to disagree with one another, but we must always be RESPECTFUL of one another.
In all honesty the person who is plagiarizing gets hurt. Him or her have to face the consequences and be punished for them. Today in class we discussed what happens we we plagiarize. The consequences are minimum at all, so I wouldnt recommend cheating in the future. It is a serious issue because it does go on your record or your college application. Its never NOT a serious issue.
ReplyDeleteplagiarism is not going to hurt the person you took the credit from but is is also going to effect you.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, plagiarism is ridiculous! The only person who gets hurt by plagiarizing is themself. I do believe this is a serious issue, and if someone chooses to plagiarize, the consequences are unfortanute. It's completly wrong to do this outside of school as well. It's never the right choice to copy someone else's work (even if it's your sibiling!)
ReplyDeleteWhen someone plagiarizes that person is hurting the writer for these reasons including that the author has taken his time to write the draft or essay either in a book or on the internet, the person who has plagiarized is considered cheating by not acknowledging credit to the author, and that the information written by the author is being copied altogether into another person’s presentation or draft. Plagiarism should be avoided because it is considered a crime in the state of New Jersey. Plagiarism is not only a crime but is also considered wrong. Many people in the U.S. have not taken the time to give credit to the author. By not doing this simple action you have just copied and taken out the topic and supporting details of that person’s argument. If you don’t recognize that person’s work he/she will be widely ignored for their work. This is why plagiarism is defined as cheating.
ReplyDeleteWhen researching on the internet or textbook you should write down all the sources that have been used for referring to so that you can check these sources and define them in better words, while giving credit to the author. These are two virtuous ways to use to your advantages. You win when you decide to not plagiarize and you lose when you plagiarize. First of all, plagiarism can reduce your grade if you are caught doing it and also assign you a detention. Also, you would not have any references to back up your draft or essay. When you plagiarize you will only deprive yourself of a learning opportunity and you will not learn and process the information to your head within due time. If you continue plagiarizing over again throughout your life you will learn almost nothing and will only hurt yourself. By plagiarizing you show disrespect to the people who have written the work, and you create a false notion of how much you know of the topic that you plagiarized. These are the reasons why you should not commit plagiarism.
Plagarism hurts the person who plagarizes. This is a very serious issue because the person would not have done any of the work. It is also a 'theft' because you are stealing other peoples work. And the people who plagarize end up not learning anything but to plagarize for anything to get an easy 'A'. Nobody should plagarize, they should take the time to do the work themselves, that way they get more rewards out of it.
ReplyDeleteI believe plagiarism is a serious issue in all grades. When people plagiarize they are only hurting themselves. They are showing everyone that they don't care about the work or that they're too lazy to do it. Consequences for plagiarism are very serious, you can get a zero on the paper up to having it go on your permanet record.Plagiarism in all grades is unacceptable and should not be tolerated!
ReplyDeleteSome people think taking another persons work and using it as their own is just borrowing and there's no way of getting in trouble. That is false! Plagirizing is a form of cheating and there will be consequences. Some people plagirize because they're lazy and don't feel like doing their own work. They also think that this method is going to get them an easy A, but in reality it will get them an F. If someone gets caught stealing other people's work, they will result in consequences like getting a zero, getting their parents involved, and eventually getting a zero for the marking period. All of these things contribute to their final grade and will make it lower then having it done by yourself. Plagirizing should teach people that you get better grades on your own, that "borrowing" could really be stealing, and that your cheating yourself when you do it.
ReplyDeleteWhen you plaigarize the only person that you hurt is yourself. Plagarism is a serious issue and should be taken seriously not only when you reach high school but all through out your life. If you think about it you are basically stealing other peoples work, you might as well be coping off a test. If you think that there is no way that you will be caught you a horribly mistaken. Plagarism can lose your trust between student and teacher, when you have lost that trust it is extemely hard to recieve it back for following essays.Over all plargarism is wrong and it can not only hurt you but hurt the people around you and lose thee trust between student and teacher.
ReplyDeleteWhen you plagerize you are only hurting yourself. Plagerism is a very serious issue everywhere. Plagerizing on a big essay or paper may get you done faster but you'll be in serious trouble after that. Plagerizing is embarassing not only to you but to your classmates you might have been cheating off of and your teacher who has to reprimand you. Plagerism isn't worth doing and why would you do it if you know you'll be in serious trouble with the school, your teacher, and your parents. The consequences that result from plagerism are getting a 0% on that paper, the teacher having to call your parents. Is it really worth going through all that just because you didn't feel like doing the work. I've never plagerized and I don't see why anyone else would its just a waste of time.
ReplyDeletePlagiarism is always a serious issue. Plagiarism is when you copy or repeat another one's work without citing the original person. Plagiarism is something that should not be a joke. Copying someones work does nothing for you. It neither helps you or excels you in the future. Plagiarism can only lead to one thing: a step back. Plagiarizing is a simple way out of something. It is always better to take the harder way and succeed in your work than plagerize and take the shortcut. A shortcut in the long run will never benefit you. The consequences of plagiarizing involve a talk with your parents and guidance counselor, along with a 0 or F for the marking period. It is not worth taking a risk like this. Plagiarism is never not a serious issue, but should be dealt in a serious manner.
ReplyDeleteI Agree with everyone else when they say that someone who gets hurt when you plagiarize is yourself. But, I also believe that you are hurting others in the process. Yes, plagiarizing does give you a 0 on that assignment, and yes, that will drop your grade and truly prove how lazy you are, but while you are doing this to yourself, you are hurting others in the process as well. You are embarrassing your parents, and doing this will only prove to them that you are incapable of being honest and pushing yourself in school. Your parents want to think that they can trust you, and if you do something as stupid as cheat on an essay, or steal work off the internet, it will be hard to gain back their trust. The last thing that any high school student wants is to not be trusted by their parents.
ReplyDeletePlagiarizing is a very serious issue. You are literally stealing someone's own work, and they probably spent a lot of time working on it, and people just take it for their own needs. I don't get the point of plagiarizing... the only people who gets hurt is the one who is copying the work. Not only will people know you for not being able to do your own work, they will have less respect for you. However, sometimes people write their own work, but in the end, it is actually the same work as someone else. And if you plagiarize, that will only cause more problems for you, like failing. So in the end, plagiarizing will only hurt you.
ReplyDeletePlagiarism is very serious. Also it isn’t fair. I think that if someone is too lazy to write a report, than they shouldn’t get a 100% for what someone else has done. Even though they think they might get a good grade, the teachers will find out about it. If students are caught doing this, I think they should have consequences.
ReplyDeleteWhy plagarize? Where does it get you? No where thats there it gets you. You will get no where in life if you dont do anything yourself. Not only are you insulting yourself but you are insulting the original creater of the story or article you copied by stealing what he worked hard on. You will get no self confidence if you dont do it yourself. because when you do it yourself it makes you feel good about yourself. I love the feeling of doing my own work because iu feel acomplished. Dont plagerize... do it yourself!
ReplyDeleteLike Mr.Moccia said today, plagarizing gets you a zero on the assignment. I can almost gaurantee all of our parents would rather see us try to complete the assignment and get a bad grade than plagarize, cheat and get a complete zero. If you get caught plagarizing it may go on your permanent record. I much rather get a bad grade than have something saying i plagarized in my record. Colleges will see that and get turned off. Although the students that do try to plagarize and get caught definaltley deserve the most harsh penalty. Also, is plagarizing illegal?
ReplyDeletePlagiarism can easily be avoided. How does plagiarism benefit you? The answer to that is it doesn't. If you are caught with plagiarism then you could receive serious consequences not only by your teacher but by your parents also. Imagine getting a zero as your final marking period grade? That could seriously effect your total grade average at the end of the year. Colleges will absolutely take that into consideration which will lower your chances of getting into the college you want. Under no circumstances should plagiarism be accepted. What if the person who is turning in the plagiarized paper took some of your words? You could even be accused of plagiarism. Students should just not plagiarize at all because it wont help you in the long run.
ReplyDeletePlagiarism only hurts yourself. Getting caught plagerizing on an assignment is just as bad as recieving a 0% for that entire paper. Why people plagiarize when they know the consequences,is behond me. Why try and cheat when you know you'll receive a 0 anyways, when you can do a bad paper and still receive at least a C. Plus, a 0 can totally kill your overall average for that marking period. So dont plagarize, just do the work yourself.
ReplyDeleteThe two people you can hurt when you plagiarize are the writer of the plagiarized piece and yourself. You will receive a zero and lose the credibility with your teachers. You don't want to be looked upon as the student who cheated, because then they will never trust your work, or take it seriously. Also, the writer is disrespected in his work.
ReplyDeleteSome argue that plagiarism is not a big deal, and I can see where they are coming from; its not illegal, its only bad if you get caught, and it's just an example of people being lazy. However, plagiarism is in fact a very big deal because later on in life when you are in college, plagiarism will get you kicked out and thats a lot of money spent down the drain. Plagiarism is bad and has no good repercussions.
Plagiarizing, in the end, only hurts yourself. If you get caught plagiarizing, your parents are notified and you will receive a zero on the assignment. People who copy other people's work, may do it because they are lazy or because they don't have time to complete an assignment. Even if they don't get caught, it will eventually catch up with them because they won't learn anything and will do poorly on tests and possibly in the future. Also, plagiarizing puts an end to creativity and new ideas. We all have a point of view that is worth expressing. So, if you ever think about plagiarizing, ask yourself this, "Is it really worth it?"
ReplyDeletePlagiarizing is horrible. You shouldnt do it because its not worth getting in trouble for if you know you can try your hardest and get a great grade. Its honestly foolish getting in trouble by your parents, going to guidence or getting a 0% just because you copied someone elses writing. Do yourself a favor and dont plagiarize.
ReplyDeleteWhen you look at the pros of cheating or plagiarizing and then compare them to the cons there is no way you should even consider plagiarizing. If you don't get an answer right on a test you may loose a couple points. If you get caught trying to cheat or plagiarize then you get a 0%. Besides if you are that worried about getting a bad grade then you should study in the first place. Also what are you afraid of if you think your parents will get mad because you got a bad grade then think about how mad they will be when they find out you plagiarized and got a 0%. DONT PLAGIARIZE end of story.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of the comments above. Plagiarism is a serious issue why? People are looking to find an easy way out of doing the assignments. With todays websites it is very easy to just copy and paste thing on to your paper and call it your own. The only person you hurt when you plagiarize is yourself. You hurt yourself because you get a 0% on the assignment. Getting a 50% on your grade is better than a 0%. But the worst part about plagiarizing is that your teachers and classmates will think of you as a cheater. The question is why do it if you have all these consequences. Plagiarism is a problem that will not be tolerated in any schools anymore.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the coments. plagiarism is very serious offence. it doesnt just have issues with school it can also have legal issues. when people think of plagerizieng they think of like big asignments like copying a whole paper and think oh i only plagiarized one paragraph they never care. even though its only one paragraph its could decide if you fail the the paper or the marking period. and if a college looks on your grades and sees that you got a 0 for the marking period because of plagairism they wont be able to trust you and youll have a smaller chance of geting into that school. and when you do it it only just effects you.
ReplyDeletePlagiarizing in high school or higher ALWAYS will come right back to you. Don't even try to take that short cut, it's all going to come back to haunt you. If you don't think you'll get caught then you wrong. Once you do get caught you usually get a 0 on the document, a call home, lose respect for teacher, etc. And if you do it more then once then you're very foolish because the consequences are even worse. Also it's bad because you are taking credit for someone else's work, just don't do it!
