“Most Dangerous Game” is considered a suspense story. Humans have always loved suspense; there are also many individuals that enjoy the horror genre. In the last twenty years or so, production of horror movies has increased 300-400%.
Why do you think people are attracted to horror films/stories? Why do people intentionally get themselves scared? Why do you think they are on the rise?
I think that people like horror movies because they like to take time out of their own lives and take a break. Although you can do that in most movies, horror movies are diffrent. People like the suspense because in the average person's life, there aren't many exciting things that go on. When people watch horror films, they like to see that even though many bad things happen, it reassures them that everything will turn out okay like in the end of the movie, the scary monster, person, ect. goes away.
ReplyDeletePeople like getting scared and watching/reading scary things because they are like fairytales, it always turns out good in the end and that makes people happy to think it was real.
I think that people who like horror films/stories like it for the thrill. Its like riding a roller coaster, it can be extremely scary but has that stomach dropping thrill you love anyways. These horror movies that people love are so made up and unrealistic it's fun to kinda pretend like your there and get that rush like your on a roller coaster. I most of the time don't typically enjoy scary movies but when i do watch them i understand why some people love them because it's fun to get scared and not be in the same mood as you were before you watched the movie. I believe people sometimes intentionally get themselves scared too because thats the point, it's not fun to watch a scary movie and just sit there. The point is to be scared so sometimes people intentionally do it for their enjoyment. I believe that scary movies and stories are on the rise because people are developing a new love for suspenseful things and like to have a time when they can kinda be in a different world, where their only concentrating on the movie or story and how scary it is. People are also understanding how no matter what it's fake and there is really nothing to be scared about in the end, but while there watching it it's fun to be scared and they like the experience.
ReplyDeletePeople are attracted to horror films and stories because they generally are fascinated by death and the horrible. There is a rush of adrenaline, a feeling of exhilaration, as they watch, or read about, blood, guts, and mind-numbing slaughter. For the most part, horror films and books permit an escape from our sometimes boring, repetitive, and mundane daily lives. Like train wrecks, car crashes and other natural or man-made catastrophes, people can’t seem to turn away from human tragedy. In my opinion, the increase in people’s appetite for horror, murder, and death has been fueled by the media and the public, including, through the internet, where people exercise very little restraint in delivering to your doorstep in graphic detail each day the very worst in human behavior and its suffering, usually in fleeting film clips or brief stories. Having been served a dose of reality as an appetizer, people yearn for more, and the expansion of horror movies and books allow us the opportunity to fulfill our desire for a more “meaty” main course.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone above me. We love horror movies; the thrill takes us into the movie and it almost feels as if you are involved in it somehow. No matter what people say or how much they complain about the violence and inhumanity some horror movies portray, they love watching it. The suspense is addicting; we want more and more. Movies that can easily be related to are usually predictable and can get boring in my opinion. Horror movies give off a much more mysterious feel that everyone feels the need to watch or talk about. Watching scary movies gets anyone's adrenaline rushing, and that feeling of excitement is what we all love and are attracted to. No one likes something boring, and horror movies are exactly the opposite of that.
ReplyDeleteI think that people are attracted to horror films and stories because they are interesting. Also, the suspense keeps people watching to see what happens at the end.People may intentionally get themselves scared because they may want to prove to other people that they are not scared and that they can watch horror movies and read scary books.I feel that horror movies and books are on the rise because advertisements attract people in. When you see commercials for horror films on T.V they lave you hanging and you want to find out what happens in the rest of the movie.
ReplyDeleteI feel people are attracted to horror moives/stories because it is fun to watch your reaction and other too. They also keep you on the edge of your seat. You don't know whats around the next corner or what will be behind the door. If your watching a movie and nothing exciting is happening the movie is no fun. people get scared on purpose because they want to have a relief or "Safe zone" to get them away from their normal life. No one cares who you are during a scary movie it is just fun to watch. I believe that horrors are moving up in the "movie food-chain" because people want to be scared and watch others be scared, Horrors are just fun to watch.
ReplyDeletePeople love suspense and horror stories, books, and films because they take you out of your life for some time and put you in a world with many deaths and sometimes supernatural characters. When you are scared or nervous your heart rate rises, and it's usually a good feeling. If a person watches or reads about horror they intentionally make their heart rate increase and they sink into the plot line, no matter how unreal and unbelievable the plot is, if the author or director did a good job, then people get sucked in and start to get afraid of what might happen next. Horror movies are on the rise because people love this uneasy feeling and can't wait to see what might jump out next.
ReplyDeleteThe horror genre is on the rise in box offices and book stores, because it is human nature to be drawn to a movie or book that is scary or horrifying. These movies and or books make the reader or watcher also thankful that they are not in the same scenario as the protagonists. they feel that it also may be a sort of comedy because they are not the protagonist set in a story line that leads to an inevitable scare or death. Suspense and horror movies are popular because the writers usual are experts at cliff hangers, leaving you chapter by chapter eagerly awaiting your next visit to horror. people also like to scare themselves because to some it gives them some sort of thrill or rush, like a roller coaster, why would you like to have more gravity applied on your body, or why would you ride a ride that may kill you? besides the thrill involved some people see trough the mask of a scary story, they see or read the scary story because the know that every thing in the end will be all fine. In conclusion, people feel the need to scare themselves over forms of literature and movies because to some it gives a thrill, to others a happy ending either or horrors are favored by most of our generation.
ReplyDeletepersonally, I dont like horror movies. However, I do like riding rollercoasters which some people say are scarier that horror movies. everyone needs a scare. I think people like horror movies because it encourages them to think that their life is good and everything will turn out to be okay, because thats typically how horror movieS, and most movies, end.
ReplyDeleteI think that these horror movies are on the rise because of all the commercials that are on tv. For example, I saw a commercial to a horror movie that left me on the edge of my seat. I thought to myself that I had to see that movie, I need to know the ending! These cliff hangers in commercials attract people. Although some people just go because they dont want people thinking their scared.
i think people like the thrill and suspense of the events that lead up to the climax. i dont agree with the person above me with the whole scary movies aren't as scary than roller coasters. although i hate them i think its more suspenseful to watch a scary movie because its over a longer period of time. whereas a roller coaster is a couple seconds and done.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about horror movies that people love so much is the thrill of wondering what they would do if they were in that situation. While it is generally a highly unlikely story, people are curious to see how the victims react and then wonder if they would have reacted the same. Also, the plot can be interesting to the viewer or reader because it is something they aren't exposed to often outside of stories so it makes them more imaginative and curious. I personally don't like horror movies. However, from the few I have experienced, I couldn't stop watching no matter how bad it got. The anticipation of what would happen next forced me to keep looking at the screen. I wondered about this today when I saw my brother reading a horror book, so I asked him why he liked it. He told me he ' couldn't wait to see what happened next.' That is the main reason I think people are drawn to horror. The suspense of what is about to happen is what keeps people on the edge of their seat and what makes horror movies sell out so fast.
ReplyDeleteI think people enjoy horror movies or books so much because they can really put you in the position of the character in the story. They can make you feel like you're living in the place of a character. I think people really actually like to be scared every once in a while even when they know it's coming. Horror stories can be worthwhile or just dumb and a waste of time, but the ones that are good, solid stories actually tend to make pretty good movies. Although I don't particularly like horror films or books i can certainly see why some people do.
ReplyDeletePeople love horror movies and books because the things that happen in the story don't happen alot. People like horror for another reason; they like the adrinaline. It's the same reason people like roller coasters and amusment parks. It gives them the "fight or flight" response which is the basic human instinct to either run or fight. That is why you get that surge of adrinaline when you are scared. people want to get that same feeling without being in a dangerous situation, and horror movies and books can give it to them.
ReplyDeletePeople enjoy horror films and novels because the experience is so out of the ordinary. The emotion of fear is rarely used in everyday life so when people experience it in a movie or book they want more of it. It's best in small doses. Also, as people have already metioned, it's an adrenalin rush. It gives you a heightened sense of excitement. Horror films are pure entertaiment, their sole purpose is to put you in the character's postion and remove you from your everyday life. When people have bad days they can watch or read a horror story and it takes them out of their own life and into a situation that puts them on the edge of their seats.
